After a dramatic 4-day journey, the 3-member crew of the Apollo 11 mission ushered in this historic moment. Equipped with a portable life support system in his backpack, as well as a special space suit, Neil Armstrong descended the ladder steps of the lander and became the first man to set foot on the moon.
