German Schwerer Gustav "DORA"

1934 yılında Krupp tarafından gelistirilen bu top, genis alana sahip istikham mevzilerini yok etmek için tasarlanmıstır. Silah Alman Mühendis Erich Müller tarafından tasarlanmıs ve gelistirilmistir. Ilk Silah “Gustav” idi Krupp gelenek olarak ilk silah için herhengi bir ücret talep etmedi. Ikinci silahın adı “Dora”'dır adını Bas Mühendisin kız arkadasından almaktadır. Bu silah için Krup sirketine 7 Milyon Reichsmark ödeme yapılmıstır. Ancak bu silah hiçbir zaman kullanılmamıstır. Gustav topu test asamasında top 250 mermi ateslemistir. 1350 ton civarında agırlıga sahipti ve 4.800 kg'lık mermiyi 48 km uzaklıktaki hedefe gönderebiliyordu. Bu kadar agır bir nesneyi hiçbir motorlu araç hareket ettiremeyecegi için, demiryolu üzerinde yürütülüyordu. Topun parçaları 25 vagon ile tasınıyordu. Topun hareket edebilmesi için 2500 kisinin demiryolu dösemesi gerekiyordu. Ayrıca silahı kurmak ve atese hazır hale getirmek için 20'si Mühendis 5000 kisiye ihtiyaç vardı Top'un atısa hazır olması için 2 büyük vince ve 5 haftalık zamana ihtiyaç vardı. Top çok büyük oldugu için uzaktan fark edilebiliyordu ayrıca hava saldırılarına karsı savunmasız idi bu yüzden topu hava saldırılarından korumak için 2 Tabur uçaksavar birligi görevliydi. Topun namlusu saga sola dönemezdi bu yüzden ates edecegi yöne dogru demiryolu yapılıyordu. Ates etmek için 500 askere ihtiyaç vardı. Top ilk olarak II. Dünya Savası'nda Fransa'ya karsı Maginot hattını imha etmesi için kullanılması düsünüldü. Fakat Wehrmacht Fransa Savası'nda bu hattı erken ele geçirdigi için, kullanımına gerek duyulmadı. Almanlar bu topu Barbarossa Harekâtı'nın Sivastapol Kusatması'nda kullanmıslardır. “Dora”  7 hedefe 48 mermi atesledi.  Atıslardan sonra topun namlusu asındıgı için top Rügenwalde fabrikalarına gönderildi burada topun namlusu degistirildi. Daha sonra top Eylül 1942 de Leningrad Kusatmasında kullanılmak üzere Leningrada gönderildi ancak büyük bir Sovyet saldırısı beklendigi için silah kullanılmadı ve Almanyaya geri götürüldü Silah Savasın sonlarına dogru Amerikan ordusu tarafından ele geçirilmemesi için 14 Nisan 1945 de dinamitle havaya uçuruldu. Diger silah “Dora” ise Sovyetlerin eline geçmemesi için 19 nisan 1945 dinamitle havaya uçuruldu.
 
 
Schwerer Gustav (Heavy Gustav) was a German 80-centimetre (31.5 in) railway gun. It was developed in the late 1930s by Krupp in Rügenwalde as siege artillery for the explicit purpose of destroying the main forts of the French Maginot Line, the strongest fortifications in existence at the time. The fully assembled gun weighed nearly 1,350 tonnes (1,490 short tons), and could fire shells weighing 7 t (7.7 short tons) to a range of 47 km. The gun was designed in preparation for the Battle of France, but was not ready for action when the battle began, and in any case the Wehrmacht's Blitzkrieg offensive through Belgium rapidly outflanked and isolated the Maginot Line's static defences, eventually forcing the French to flee in panic and surrender. Gustav was later deployed in the Soviet Union during the Battle of Sevastopol, part of Operation Barbarossa, where, among other things, it destroyed a munitions depot located roughly 30 m (98 ft) below ground level. The gun was moved to Leningrad, and may have been intended to be used in the Warsaw Uprising like other German heavy siege pieces, but the uprising was crushed before it could be prepared to fire. Gustav was destroyed by the Germans near the end of the war in 1945 to avoid capture by the Soviet Red Army.
Schwerer Gustav was the largest-calibre rifled weapon ever used in combat and, in terms of overall weight, the heaviest mobile artillery piece ever built. It fired the heaviest shells of any artillery piece. It was surpassed in calibre only by the unused British Mallet's Mortar and the American Little David bomb-testing mortar—both at 36 inches (91.5 cm)—but was the only one of the three to be used in combat.
